Book Review: Beautiful Ruins

book review

Sometimes you should judge a book by its cover because the cover of Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter is just as amazing as the story inside.

The story alternates between an innkeeper taking care of and falling in love with a starlet at a hotel in a tiny coastal town in Italy in the 1960s and a Hollywood producer in the present day meeting the now aged innkeeper and trying to reunite him with his long lost love. It is such an inventive and complex story of characters with the Richard Burton-Elizabeth Taylor love saga thrown in for good measure. This is definitely something to read if you are about to embark on or during a trip to Italy. It made me long to book a trip to the Amalfi Coast.
