Trying new foods is without a doubt my favorite thing to do when I travel. But I know I don’t have to get on a plane to enjoy eating out because there are so many great places to eat right here in San Francisco. So I thought it would be fun to share the restaurants and cafes, with enticing photos to boot, I visit with my friends or family on a monthly basis so here is what I ate in May!
One of my best friends Sasha moved back home to San Francisco from Australia a couple months ago. She was gone for over two years and while we made sure to see each other a few times during that period, my friends and I are more than happy that she is back in the Bay Area for good! Now we can hang out whenever we want and one of our favorite things to do is eat. So one Saturday afternoon we all met at Chef Michael Chiarello’s Spanish restaurant Coqueta to celebrate Sasha’s homecoming.
I love a good cup of tea and a scone. Since I miss sitting down for this treat at The Orangery in London, I like having a tea room here at home where I can go whenever a craving comes on. Lovejoy’s Tea Room is cozy and traditional and my favorite place to go for tea in the city. I recently went there with my cousins for a leisurely afternoon.
For our Culture Club event in February, my friends and I tasted Southern cooking and followed that up with a matinee show at the San Francisco Ballet. Culture club is a way for my friends and I to make sure we see each other at least once a month while indulging in some culture, whether it’s viewing a new exhibit at the De Young museum or having a “Frenchie” night where we open a bottle of wine, share a cheese platter, and watch Midnight in Paris.
In my office, we have a few Scottish lassies. One year, they sent out an email to everyone inviting us to partake in a glass of whisky up on the top floor to celebrate Robert Burns. I had no idea who this Burns guy was or why they were celebrating him. Fast forward to this past January and I figured out the mystery of Mr. Burns.
I forget how Culture Club started but my friends and I have kept it going not only to become a little bit more worldly but also to make sure that we see each other on the regular.
I recently baked delicious granola – enough to fill a jar and have for breakfast everyday. I’m always in a rush in the morning when I get ready for work and wanted to make breakfast ahead of time to save me some minutes in the a.m. The Coconut Almond Granola recipe below is super easy to make and I love topping it with yogurt and blueberries or strawberries.
Last week I went to New York for work with a little bit of fear because I’m a big California wimp when it comes to freezing east coast weather. However, one thing I always look forward to when I go to the Big Apple is trying new restaurants. I keep a running list of places I want to try and you can check out some of them on my Afar trip plan. Here are the places I ate at during my trip last week.
