I needed a mini-vacation and celebrating my friend’s birthday wine tasting in the Russian River Valley was the perfect remedy. This past Memorial Day weekend I went with a group of friends to Healdsburg to go wine tasting. Our group was big and we didn’t have a lot of time to drive from vineyard to vineyard.
To be honest, I was hoping to visit expansive vineyards and take in the scenery but with our big group and time constraints we stuck to the wine tasting rooms in downtown Healdsburg and it was just as much fun proving that there are many ways to enjoy the Russian River Valley and all of its wine offerings. Here are just a few of my favorite places that we visited:
On our way into downtown Healdsburg we did get to visit one winery. Twomey Winery had a modern vibe with hard edges, stone floors, and floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the vineyard. The patio view was my favorite part about the place because I could sunbathe and taste wine at the same time.
This place was one of the first tasting rooms my friends and I visited and it was definitely a lot busier with a crowd of other big groups. The room was also smaller than the others but the staff was amazing. They were friendly and didn’t mind taking the same picture of all of us on ten different cameras.
Artiste was my favorite tasting room. The wine was great and they had appetizers, which towards the end of the day is key because we were getting hungry. Of course, there was beautiful art work all around the room and easels and paint brushes for customers to create their own masterpiece.
Bear Republic Brewing Company
After a few hours of tasting, this restaurant was the perfect place to fulfill our appetites and end the day. Not only do they have a wide selection of beers but the most amazing burgers. I ate every bite of my mushroom and onion burger on the outdoor patio with my friends. We were all too busy eating to talk.
Healdsburg may get overlooked on your way to Napa but it’s an alternative worth checking out if you need a quick weekend away from home.
