Mile Rock Beach is just another beautiful spot in San Francisco to get you away from the urban hustle and closer to nature and fresh air. After taking an iPhone photography class a while ago, I’ve drawn up a list of places in the Bay Area that are ideal for photo walks and when I have a free day or afternoon, I try to cross a place off my list like Mile Rock Beach. It is indeed a great photo opportunity as there aren’t a ton of people around so it’s as if you have the Pacific Ocean, the sand, and the view of the Golden Gate Bridge all to yourself.
I parked at the Lands End Lookout that overlooks the Sutro Baths and walked to the Lands End Trail. After about five minutes or so on the trail, you will see signs for Mile Rock Beach and you have to walk down quite a lot of steps to get down to the beach. It’ll be a workout on the way back up but it’s worth it! It’s nice to go with friends or family, but if you can try and go by yourself for an hour. Time to yourself is good for you but I also like it because when I bring my camera, I can take my time finding the right angles and taking as many shots as I want to find the perfect photo.
Afterwards you can continue walking on the Lands End trail or if you’ve worked up an appetite, grab a bite to eat at one of the many delicious restaurants in the nearby Outer Richmond or Outer Sunset neighborhoods. My favorites are Outerlands, Cassava, or A Desi Cafe. Here are some snaps I took of this haven on the shore.
