When my cousin Carl was in town, my family and I not only took him on a beautiful hike but we also drove up to the Napa Valley for a day of wine tasting.
Carl and his cousin Marc, who is living here in San Francisco now, had never been to Napa before so we were all excited for them. You can spend a whole weekend at the vineyards or even spend just the night but my cousins and I drove up just for the day. The car ride is a little over an hour, leaving plenty of time for visits to multiple wineries and to enjoy the sun, food, and fresh air! Here’s what we did for Carl and Marc’s inaugural trip:
We started the day off at the Robert Mondavi Winery. Mondavi is probably one of the most famous wineries in the Napa Valley. I had been there before but when I went back this time with my cousins, I was happy to see they had put out a lot of tables outside for visitors to enjoy their wine tastings. It turned out to be a gorgeous and warm day so we got some much-needed Vitamin D as we sipped our wine and snacked on some chips and nuts that we had brought with us.
For lunch, we ate at V. Sattui Winery. You can order deli sandwiches and pastas or buy cheese, meats, and breads and go find a spot to sit outside in their large picnic area. Be warned that this place does get crowded especially on a weekend day but if you don’t mind the crowds it can be fun. You can also squeeze in a wine tasting here so it would be like killing two birds with one stone.
After lunch, we went to my favorite winery Alpha Omega. I’ve been here many times before and I always recommend the winery to friends or guests. I’m not a wine connoisseur or anything so I couldn’t tell you if the wines here are exceptional compared to other wineries but what I love about Alpha Omega is its back patio. They have lots of comfy lounge chairs and a fountain with geysers and I always feel like I can just kick back and relax there.
Carl and Marc had a great time in Napa and I would gladly take them to visit the vineyards again and again.
