Where Am I Traveling to Next? It’s Closer Than You Think

Trips to two islands and some wine barrels have magically popped up on my calendar. In a previous post, I vented about my need to travel somewhere far away. However, after reading other blogs out there and reading your comments, I’ve realized that I don’t need to travel far to well, travel.

Two friends from college are coming to visit me this weekend here in San Francisco and they want to go to Alcatraz Island. I have never been, or at least I don’t think I have. I may have gone when I was a little girl but I’m not sure. I do remember riding on a boat around the island but that’s pretty much it so I am looking forward to actually visiting The Rock. I’m also looking forward to the next time friends visit me and I can say, “Oh yeah, I’ve been there before, totally.” I’m pretty much ashamed I haven’t visited before, kind of like how I was ashamed to be the only one of my friends who hadn’t read Harry Potter. I just finished the last book in the series, thank you very much.

I am also going to Angel Island State Park next month. My company offered a Global Volunteer Day opportunity to clean up the park and do some gardening. I thought a day away from the office and out in the sunshine would do me and the park some good. Again, I don’t remember ever going to this park but my Dad told me I went in the 2nd grade. I should really be embarrassed that I haven’t been to two popular islands a stone’s throw away from my front door but better late than never. I can’t wait to take pictures of the skyline sans the fog, hopefully.

Finally, I am going on an overnight trip with my two best friends to Napa. I have never gone wine tasting in Napa. Did I mention I should be embarrassed? Sasha, Dee, and I have been friends since high school and have not been on a trip together since our graduation extravaganza to Hawaii. The fact that we worked our schedules around to find one weekend when we could go on a trip together is a miracle. We need a vacation full of wine, food, and spas and rest assured we will be documenting this because who knows the next time we will be able to take another trip together.

Yes, I am quite excited about my upcoming travels and sharing my experiences with you. The fact that these places are so close to where I live has inspired me to find other possible destinations near by because you never know where your next trip will take you.

  1. Hi Joya – let me know if you can post a link back to my travel site, Dave’s Travel Corner, http://www.davestravelcorner.com – I have you listed on my Blog resources.

also saw in your latest post that you are planning a Napa trip. If you need any information about Napa, drop me a note. I’ve visited, tasted with and published reviews of 600+ wine producers in Napa.

    Thanks 🙂

  2. Love the ‘Traz.

But don’t feel too bad. I know plenty of people that live in NYC and have never been to the Statue of Liberty (as well as others who live in Hawaii and have never been to Pearl Habor).

    It happens.

    1. Hi Becs, yeah I think it’s pretty common for locals to neglect the most popular site in their hometown. Still I’m looking forward to the ‘Traz. Thanks for visiting my blog!
